Trend Update: Spring 2012 - The Anorak
Michelle Lynch, Fashion-Ade Style Director

Okay - spring spoiler alert! Can we pin spring's decidedly sporty look on this summer's Olympic Games, or is it something else?
Whatever the reason behind it: you are going to see TONS of sports-inspired fashions this spring and summer, and the updated anorak is definitely a featured player!
You know this silhouette - you probably wore it in seasons past, done up in military colors - khaki, olive, tan, brown. It's got comfortable styling and a great length, and it's you-control-the-waistline-styling makes it work for almost every figure.
This season, you're going to find it in fresh colors - Kelly Green, Sunshine Yellow, Hot Pink. You're also going to see it in unexpected fabrics. Silks, mesh (more about this soon - another mega trend this coming season) and even see-through plastic vinyl are all to be seen as well.
So: Got an anorak hanging in the closet, just waiting to take you into spring? Let's do it - here's how!
- The quintessential bottom for an anorak? The legging or skinny jean, of course. You have a lot of volume going on with this jacket, so keep it lean and streamlined on bottom. Try pairing a bright anorak with an equally bright pant - orange and hot pink, or cobalt and yellow, for instance, to bring some color-blocking into play.
- Another option? Pair it with - you know it, my favorite - the pencil skirt! Just picture a shimmery blush anorak with a black pencil skirt and heels - are you getting' what I'm putting down? A luscious - and comfortable - look for the office. You don't need a lot of jewelry with this look - maybe a hoop earring or a couple of bangles. And, push your sleeves up and show your wrists off. It's the way to wear a jacket during spring 2012.
- For those of you with a bohemian bent, you might want to pile on a lovely floral scarf. Try one in this season's hot black-and-blue floral palette. Just be sure to choose one that is a bit streamlined - you don't want TOO much bulk!
Yes, anoraks are going to get you through these last few weeks of winter, and they'll take you right on into spring - so get sporty and get going with this comfortable silhouette.
Maybe this trend isn't for you? Try another!
