Trend Update: Winter 2012 - Capes & Ponchos

Why, I’m talking about the poncho and cape, of course! Oh yes, it is here, it is there, it is everywhere!
The poncho or cape is the accessory of all accessories. When dressing a celebrity or model, I am big on screaming “where is the completer piece?” And ladies, this trend definitely qualifies as the “completer piece!”
Let me give you a few examples of how to wear this hot-off-the-runway fashion piece.
- Classic: Plaid Cape + black pencil skirt + 2-tone Mary Jane shoe
- Preppy: BB Dakota Calhoun cape + grey wide leg pant + cranberry suede pump
- Trendy: Simple colored shell + oversized v-neck poncho with a bold stripe + skinny jeans (tucked in, of course) + knee-high buckled heel boot
These are just a few examples, but please, do play with these fabulous accessory pieces, as they come in literally hundreds of variations:
- Hooded, fur-collared, double-breasted or with pockets
- Turtleneck or scoop neck
- Waist length or knee length
- In knits, fleece or wool blend
Whether they are knitted, zipped or fringed, you can come up with lots of fun combinations. Pair with leggings, jeans, pants or skirts, there are NO boundaries for you Caped Crusaders!
