Trend Update: Winter 2012 - Metallic Colors

Michelle Lynch, Style Director

If you're in the mood to update your wardrobe with a hot Fall trend, let me introduce you to Metallics with a twist.  I say "with a twist" because metallics have gone to a new level!  Gone are the days where this look was reserved only for rockstars and Las Vegas showgirls.  This season, you can add the following to the traditional gold and silver:

  • Bronze
  • Platinum
  • Metallic red
  • Metallic blue
  • Even gunmetal gray gets in on the act.

Use these hues to create to match your mood and your wardrobe.  You can still rock your "heavy metal" looks, or go with a quieter approach with light-as-a-feather hints of shimmer.  Don't be afraid to mix and match.

Metallics can be used as statement pieces:

  • Consider a metal cuff bracelet
  • What about a bevy of bangles to bring in the trend?
  • A shimmery tote-bag or clutch is sure to enhance any look.

Can't find the metallic look in a garment you love?  Try the fabric store. Swap out monotone jacket buttons for gold, silver or gray shines.  Add leftover buttons to a headband or barrette to top off your look.

Metallic looks I'm loving this season:

  • One of the new metallic/sequined T-shirts paired with skinny jeans
  • Velvet short shorts and cropped jacket, with (what else?) metallic wedges.

This season, go for the gold, silver or bronze!  No matter what you choose you'll be a winner!
