Sheer isn't just about showing skin. This winter, the delicate nature of these fabrics can add softness and a pop of color to your outfit at the same time.

This season it's all about mixing things up a bit; that is, mixing the outrageous with the feminine to add a little shock treatment.  Here's an example:

  • Just imagine yourself a push-up lace & tie bustier, a tiered ruffle skirt, a crop cardigan with a peep-toe shoe bootie and a clutch bag with metal handle - fabulous, huh?
  • Not sure about that bustier?  You can always try a nude cami under a sheer blouse to show just a hint of sheer at the neck.  That will really add some va-va-va-voom!

The key, here, is to mix things up.  I love expecting the unexpected. As a stylist, I'll put a traditional outfit together first, then zap it with that one piece that will make it completely different. Colored sheer pieces are a perfect way to do this during Winter 2012.

For instance, try this: lay out one of your go-to outfits on the bed (or, better yet, build it and save here on FashionAde.com!),  Now, look at that outfit and ask yourself, 'How can I make this different and current?'

Buy something you would never buy.  If sheer is something you do all the time, look at other posts I've offered up this season - what about a wedge shoe, or something red or royal blue? Add a deliciously Victorian-inspired choker at the neck, or a cool, funky metal cuff bracelet and you will turn heads like you wouldn't believe.

Just by changing the accessories (necklace, earrings, shoes, bag, or even your hair), thinking outside the box can change your whole look - you'll be amazed at the transformation!
