Trend Update: Winter 2012 - Velvet
Michelle Lynch, Style Director
We all know this to be true: Velvet is a staple for fall and winter. The time has come to enjoy mountains of this rich, fabulous, relaxed material which flows with the movement of your body.
There's no reason to deny that velvet has hit the mark this season, on the runways and into our closets. This year, you're going to see depths of color - it plays perfectly with this fabric. Look for burgundy, navy, deep green, claret wine & midnight blue. Oh, so nice, so edgy, so romantic- and how you wear it is your choice!
Because holiday dressing is right around the corner, be prepared with some of the following velvet items:
- Velvet shorts and tees
- Cropped and boxy velvet jackets
- Shimmery velvet jeans
- Crushed velvet dresses
- Short velvet skirts and embellished velvet tanks
- Long and short velvet coats
This year, velvet can go edgy or classic, your call:
- For any edgy take on velvet: Some designers decided to make this fabric really cool this year by using neon colors, then mixing it with denim or a great blazer for a more youthful and energetic feel. I would totally wear this, I love it!
- Or stick to the tried and true: You can't go wrong with these classic looks:
- Black velvet dinner jackets and tuxedos for ladies
- Floor-skimming velvet gowns
- Bright colored velvet tunics with shiny skinny pants
Like I said, know matter which direction you go, velvet is your simply wonderful staple for holiday dressing!
